Municipality of Gordona: over 500 stickers, dozens of pages, and a story to tell

Reading time: 4 min.

Just imagine for a moment a world in which setting foot in a village does not mean walking through Piazza Incoronazione or Via Roma, but rather bumping into Mr Franco, waving to Mrs Serena as she leans out from her first-floor balcony, or stopping for a chat over coffee with Blip and asking him… what ever happened to his sticker (yes, we’ll come back to that later)?

This is not science fiction, as you’ve probably already guessed. It is the true face of our towns, telling their story through the names of the people who live in those homes, fill the squares, and take part in local life. For us at Figurine Italia, they are the real heroes, the ones who truly pass down the story of a place, and we absolutely love telling their stories in our own way — by turning their faces into sticker collectibles!

Today we are going to tell one special story: that of the Municipality of Gordona, which chose to tell its story this way… and could never have imagined how successful it would be!

The story of an album: the power of children

As we all know, opening a pack of stickers can spark huge excitement in children — but also in those who grew up with stacks of duplicates, pounding their fists and saying I’ve got this one, got this one too, and this one — yes, yes, this is the one I’m missing! As Martina Fogliada, whom we thank for the interview, told us:

for me it was like becoming a child again: the excitement of opening the pack, flipping through the stickers to check for duplicates, the joy of finding the one that was missing, the struggle to peel it off, and then the concentration needed to stick it straight into the album…

But the idea of creating an album from scratch actually came from the middle school students, right in the middle of a friendly rivalry with the opponents from a nearby town that had already made an album of their own.

of course it turned into a competition to see who could make the best one, and losing was simply not an option…

A little competition is healthy, isn’t it? Especially when it stays playful and within the spirit of a game that brings generations together, just like collecting sticker albums. In fact, while the promoters of this initiative had no doubts about the impact it would have on children and on their own generation — who grew up with pockets always full of stickers — they did wonder how today’s older teenagers and younger adults, as well as the older residents, would respond while preparing the photographic material for the album. But as it turned out, they were the very first to tear open the packs, creating a brand-new trend that we at Figurine Italia can only recommend: the sticker happy hour, where stickers and a beer take over the tables of local cafés!

Anecdotes… because every album is unique

Legends, mysteries, stories of collectors disappearing into magical sticker packs, and many other anecdotes: every collection carries with it little tales worth passing on, and that is exactly what makes it unique. And Gordona was no exception!

As always, there are those who regret not having wanted — or been able — to take part, but hey, there will always be time to make up for it with a version 2 of the collection! For now, though, let me tell you about these two episodes of local lore…

  1. What happened to Blip? That’s right, him! The very same Blip I mentioned earlier. Apparently, the prize for the rarest sticker in the collection goes to him! Impossible to find, well hidden inside the packs… was there perhaps someone secretly hoarding his duplicates just to show them off at happy hour? We may never know — or maybe we will: if you know anything about Blip and his sticker, get in touch with us on our Facebook page. We are curious!
  2. But the story that is truly worth telling is that of a mysterious lady who loved the initiative so much — and understood so deeply its power to preserve the story of the town she is clearly so fond of — that she decided to complete albums even for those who did not have the time. Local legend has it that she had more than 50 albums in her hands at the same time. In short: hats off to her!

The beginning of a saga?

Could this be the beginning of a new way for Gordona to tell its own story? We will find out together. The enthusiasm for this initiative has involved both young and old, all of whom have discovered the beauty of a game… which is not really just a game at all!

And we too, as partners, had enormous fun, because we believe in stories — and there are no stories that do not deserve to be told!

How can you turn your town into a story with a happy ending?

Did this story inspire you? Would you like to give your Municipality, public body, or association the same opportunity to tell its story out loud?

Don’t forget that a personalized sticker album truly preserves your photographic story and is also an excellent way to raise funds… while creating a unique bond within the community. A bond just like the adhesive stickers it is made of!
